Pilates is a physical fitness system developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. In his book Return to Life through Contrology, Pilates presents his method as the art of controlled movements (he named his method Contrology). Pilates exercises emphasize alignment, core strength, mobility, stamina, stabilization, coordination and balance. The core, referred to as The powerhouse in Pilates, is made up of the muscles of the abdomen, low back, hips and pelvic floor. Pilates can be used for rehabilitation or strength and conditioning. There is a wide range of exercises (over 500) that can be used for a beginner or an advanced level.
At my studio Core Pilates & Health, I use the reformer, wunda chair, Cadillac, barrels, and small props to support the body’s movement and enhance the workout. Each session is detailed for the body in front of me. Privates, duets, and small groups of 4 are provided.
